Math Dictionary Chapter 12!


Range- The difference between the highest and lowest numbers in the data

Median- The middle number in the set of data

Mean- The average

Mode- The number that shows up the most in the data

Stem & Leaf Plot- A way to display data by putting it in order

Box and Whisker Plot- A way to display data by using a box and some lines

Lower Quartile- The median of the first half of the data

Upper Quartile- The median of the second half of the data

Lower Extreme- The lowest number in the set of data

Upper Extreme- The highest number in the set of data

Circle Graph- A graph that uses percentages to display data

Line Graph- A graph that shows data over a period of time

Tree Diagram- A diagram which lines branch out to a central or center point

Fundamental Counting Principal- If one event can occur in m ways, and the
second event can occur in n ways. The ways that the two events can occur
together is m*n

Complementary- When one or the other event has to happen. The probability will add
up to one

Odds- The ratio of favorable outcomes to unfavorable outcomes

Probability- Number of favorable outcomes over the total number of outcomes, always between 0 and 1

Independent Event- The first event does not affect the second event

.Dependent Event- The first event does have an effect on the second event

Unfavorable Outcome- The outcome we do not want to happen
