-Step Problem Solving Method
1. Read and Understand- Read the problem carefully.
Identify the question and any important information.
2. Make a Question- Decide on a problem solving strategy.
3. Solve the Problem- Use the problem solving strategy to
answer the question.
4. Look Back- Check that your answer is reasonable.

Frequency Table-A display to show how often items, numbers, or a
range of numbers occur.

-Steps

1. Choose a scale and Intervel of equal size for the data
2. Use tally marks to record each occurrence of a height in its
interval
2. Write the frequency for each interval by totaling the tally mark

Numerical Expression- A numerical expression which a combination
of numbers and one or more
operation symbols.
Examples- 6+3-3x6= 36

external image j0130271.gif

Evaluate- Evauluate means to solve something. I am
going to evaluate a expression.
A example- 6+3-2x6= 108

external image 5Evaluate_001.jpg
-Order of Operations
When you solve equations you usually use Order of Operations.
You can usually use Pemdas, or Gemdas. Pemdas
stands for Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division,
Addition, and Subtraction. Gemdas, stands for
Grouping, Exponents, Multiplication, Division which ever comes first,
and Addition and Subtraction which
ever comes first. Their is a little difference.

external image order-of-operations-05-01.gif

Examples- 6+4-3x3= 21 (7x5)+7-2/5=8
5x(18-2)+(14+4)/6+3-2x4+9
5x15+(14+4)/6+3-2x4+9
And so on.....
5x(18-2)+(14+4)/6+3-2x4+9=84
I used Pemdas and Gemdas to sove that problem.

Algebra- the area of math where we use letters.
Examples- 6+a=15 a=9 18-c= 25 c= 7

external image algebra1.jpg

Variable Expression- an expression that consists of numbers,
variables, and at least one operation.
Examples- 6x4-4/5=4 5-1x4/4= 4

external image expression-term.gif

Exponents- How many of the base to multiply. If a homework
question or math question says six to the
third power, it has a exponent in it! Six is the base
and three is the exponent. So then you would multiply
six times six times six and you would get the answer 216!

external image 8de307d27c53a35c029d4cff98f1b09b1c64547c_full.jpg

Base- The number that is multiplied together
.
If you have the problem five to the second power, five is the
base and two is the exponent. The next step, is to multiply five
times five and get the product 25!

external image 27232.gif

Squared- Have you ever found the area of something?
If you have, you have to square it. For example if
you were to find the area of a square that every
side is 6 centimeters long. You would have to multiply
six times six. You should end up getting 36. But you
would have to square it so the answer would be
36 centimeters squared.

external image 2cubed.jpg

Equation- A equation is a math sentence thtat has a
equal sign. So 5=5 is a equation along with 5x6+4-3
/16.
To solve a equation using mental math, you can think
of it as a question.
17+a=29
17 plus what equals 29?
17+11=29 So a equals eleven!

external image equations.jpg

Solving an Equation- Find the number that
makes it true.18 plus what equal 31?
The answer is 13. Turn it into a question.
Then ask yourself that question.

external image solving-algebra-equation.gif

Formula- A equation that relates to two or more quanities.
Their are a lot of formula's in the world. The formula for area
is length times width. The formula for density
equals mass divided by volume.

Perimeter- The sum of all the sides of the shape.
Perimeter equals 2 length times 2 width.
If you have a square with the each side equaling
9 you would multiply 9x9. Then you would do that
again. Next,you would add 81 and 81because 9x9
equals 81. 81 plus 81 equals 161.

Area- The space inside a shape. If you had a square with
the length 9 inches and the width 6 inches you would multiply
them. You would do that because the formula for area is length times
width. So the area would be 54. But, when you
do area you always square it. So the offical answer would be
54 inches squared.

Histogram-A graph where data is broken into intervals.
When you make histograms the bars are NOT like bar
graph bars. The bars touch. They are NOT spread apart,
like bar graph
bars.

external image iw_histogram.gif

Variable- A letter that takes a place of a number.
Examples- 6+F=10 21-C=11 19xD=38

Cubed- A number multiplied by itself.

Solution-The number that makes an equation true

The 8 Rules for Integer Operation!

1. The sum of two positive integers will always be positive, to get
the answer you just add

2. The sum of two negative integers will always be negative, to get
the answer you just add

3. The sum of two integers with different signs, will always be negative.
To get the answer you subtract and take the sign of the bigger number

4. To subtract two integers change the subtraction sign to addition sign,
and change the sign of the second number to its opposite

5. The product of two integers with the same sign will always be
positive, to get the answer you just multiply

6. The product of two integers with different signs will always be
negative, to get the answer
just multiply.

7. The quotion of two integers with the same sign will always be positive to get the answer
you divide.

8. The quotion of two integers with different signs will always be negative, to get the answer
you just divide.

Examples-
1. -6+-8= -14
2. -5+-7= 12
3. 3+15= 18
4. 12-18= -6
5. 4-(-7)= 11
6. -12x-7=-84
7. 11x-8= -88
8. -3x2= -6
9. -14/-2= 7
10. 12/-3= -4
11. -15/5= -3

and divide by how many numbers there are and that is the mean
