Robert Hooke’s first experiment- One of the first people to look at a cell. Saw a cell using his own invention (compound microscope). Named it a cell because it reminded him of tiny rooms.
Anton van Leeuwenhoek- He made his own lens. First person to see bacteria.
What is a cell? The basic unit of structure and fution in living things.
Cell theory- 1. All living things are composed of cells 2. Cells are made by other cells 3. Cells are the basic unit of structure in all living things.
Magnification - The ability to make things look larger than they really are.
Resolution- The ability to clear distinguish the individual parts of an object.
Label a plant and animal cell.
What are the two things a plant cell has that an animal cell does not? Chloroplasts, Cell Wall
Selectively permeable- A property of cell membranes, that allows some substances to pass through, while others cannot.
Diffusion- The process by which molecules move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.
Osmosis- The diffusion of water molecules through a selectively permeable membrane.
Passive transport- The movement of materials through a cell membrane without using energy.
Active transport- The movement of materials throught a cell membrane using energy.
Transport protein- The cell has several ways of moving materials by active transport. One way is by the cell membrane, pick up molecules, outside the cell and carry them in, using energy in the process. Some substances that are carried into and out of cells in this way include calcium, potassium, and sodium.
Engulfing- The cell membrane engulfs a particle.
Respiration- The process by which cells break down simple food moecules to release to the energy they contain.
Photosynthesis- The process by which plants and some other organisms capture the energy in sunlight and use it to make food.

Know what each organelle does in a cell- They have a different fution within the cell, for each organelles.
